Vulcan fibre - or vulcanite - is a plate material made of compressed cotton fibre paper. It is used as an insulation material and for the manufacture of various implements.
Vulcan fibre has excellent mechanical and electrical properties and offers a high tear resistance and tensile strength.
In the thinner sizes, it is flexible and can be bent. In the thicker sizes, it can be shaped with the aid of steam and pressure. The electrical properties are for example a high insulation value. It is resistant to most organic solvents, oils and petroleum derivatives.
